Abstract :
The present study aimed to Construct and validate a scale for assessing the psychological and emotional harm of marriage in women who experienced unwanted (forced) marriage. The present study was a series of consecutive exploratory experiments guided by the testing approach, and it was conducted qualitatively and quantitatively in two stages. The statistical population in the first stage included women with unwanted marriage experience in 2023. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. In the second stage, 225 women from Ahwaz City who experienced unwanted marriages in 2023 were selected using the available sampling method. The research tool in the first stage was a semi-structured interview, and in the second stage, a researcher-made scale (PEAS) and Subjective Wellbeing Scale (SWS) were used. The data were analyzed in the first stage using thematic analysis and in the second stage using factor analysis. The findings of the qualitative section showed that 18 concepts were extracted in 6 dimensions, and a 30-item scale was designed based on these concepts. The results of exploratory factor analysis identified 6 factors for this scale and the total scale explained 72.21% of the variance of psychological and emotional harms. The confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the above 6 factors and Cronbach's alpha of the whole scale was 0.96. This scale has good validity and validity and it is suggested to use it to evaluate psychological and emotional harms in women who have experienced unwanted marriages.
